Shoot the Glass: rebirth

All right, folks. I took some of your suggestions to heart, and can now present you with the new (and hopefully improved) Shoot the Glass.

First of all, you’ll have noticed I gave the site a makeover. I tend to do this a lot, but this time I felt it was warranted. I’ve added a bunch of new stuff; both site features and content. The design is sleeker and you should hopefully be able to find your way around better.

New features
- Live search: now if you type something in the search box, you can choose to either click the search button and get detailed results, or you can wait half a second to get live results, without having to click anything. Pretty neat.
- Rate movies: at the bottom of every review post, you will see a “rate this movie” area, with stars, so now you can vote for these movies too (assuming you’ve seen them) and I’ll know what you thought. Instant feedback! If you have a moment, please go back through all my old review posts (using the Archives is a good place to start) and add your own rating.
- Related posts: at the bottom of every post you’ll now see some links for posts related to the one you’re reading. This should hopefully help you find other posts that might interest you.
- Archives: new and improved archives which will hopefully help you find old stuff easier.

New content
- Hitchcount: this new list will track my progress through all of Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. Check out this list here.
- Alphabet Project: initially Will’s idea, I’m loving the prospect of delving into this list. I am going to take user suggestions on what movies to watch, so be sure to vote in the current polls right now.

That’s it for now. Please leave feedback if you have any, and let me know if you come across any bugs or places where I could improve the site. Other than that, all you need to do is stay tuned for a lot more content to come in the near future.

  1. Cool beans on the Alphabet Project. I had a lot of fun doing it. I tried to add Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) to the B-list, but I could not vote for it after I entered it.

    Will

  2. Were you logged in when you tried to do that? I think you might have to be. I just added it and it worked fine for me. So, your vote has been counted.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  3. No comments on the Alphabet Count page?

American Graffiti is just a great look at rural America in the 60s (I suppose — can’t say I know how accurate it is). Plus, you need to see this just so you can more fully appreciate Homer’s Animal House song. :-)

Beach Blanket Bingo just seems like the best option for this project — it’s out there. Maybe you can watch From Justin to Kelly for “F” just to see how far we’ve come in the past 40 (?) years… :-?

  4. I’ll see about adding comments to the List pages; all six of them. Might be good to be able to get some feedback that way.

  5. I can’t seem to be able to add new options to the polls, either. Everything else seems to be working fine though, well done.

  6. Ok, for now, leave comments about other movie suggestions in the comments form on the Alphabet Projects page (I’ve just opened comments there).

I’ll see what the problem is with adding custom options.
